When it comes to pool equipment, one of the most important considerations that homeowners need to make is the type of pool heater they would want. Considering that there are a myriad of options available in the market, it is not uncommon to find homeowners overwhelmed with the task of choosing one. The good news is that by knowing the various attributed the pool heaters have, you can make a knowledgeable decision on what would be best suited for your needs and preferences. Here are some of the different heaters you can contemplate when searching for pool equipment.

Electric heaters

As the name suggests, these types of pool heaters will generate heat through the use of electric currents. These heaters have a resistor located inside them. When the heater is switched on, the resistor begins to heat up. When your pool water washes over this heater, the water becomes warmer, whereas the resistor starts cooling down. One thing to note about these types of heaters is that they tend to need a lot of power to generate a sufficient amount of heat. As such, they are best suited for smaller pools such as therapy pools, spa pools and the like.

Gas heaters

These types of pool equipment run on either propane or natural gas. To generate heat, the gas will combust inside a chamber that has an array of copper coils. As the natural gas or propane burns in the chamber, pool water passes though the copper coils and is heated in the process. Gas heaters are one of the most conventional methods that you could choose for pool heating because this method has been around for a significant amount of time. However, it should be noted that their popularity has steadily been on the decline due to increased gas prices.

Heat pumps

This is one of the more popular options when it comes to swimming pool heating. These pumps rely on electricity to generate the heat that will be transferred into your pool. There are two main types of heat pumps that you could choose. The first are the air-source pumps. These pumps will get their heat from the air. The second type are the water source pumps, which will get their heat from water. Heat pumps are considered to be one of the most energy efficient options that you could consider and as such, they are steadily increasing in popularity among pool owners.
